Insight Timer alternatives for chakras, kundalini and breath

Insight Timer is huge and mostly free, which is amazing. The flip side is that it’s a library, not a path: lots of teachers, and you pick. If you want one clear way through chakras, kundalini yoga or breathwork, here are three alternatives, checked on 2026-10-29.

By the Chakra Babe team · Updated

What Insight Timer does well

  • Its help centre says the free app has over 300,000 guided meditation, sleep, breathing and mindfulness practices, hundreds of free courses and live sessions.
  • MemberPlus ($59.99 a year or $9.99 a month, USD) adds thousands of courses, offline downloads and video courses.
  • Its kundalini topic page alone lists tracks from more than 20 different teachers, from 3 minutes to over an hour.

Why you might look elsewhere

  • So much choice that it’s hard to know where to start, or what to do on day two.
  • Courses aren’t sold one at a time: its help centre says they come with MemberPlus, a subscription.
  • Every teacher does it their own way, so the method changes from track to track.

1. Chakra Babe: one path, root to crown

Ours, so read it knowing that. We start everyone on The 7-Day Chakra Challenge, free: one chakra a day, about ten minutes, with a breath pacer, a timer, a mantra and a journal prompt. After that, four short courses go deeper: Kundalini for Babes: 8 lessons, about 106 minutes of practice, $47; Breathwork Babe: 7 lessons, about 66 minutes of practice, $27; Aura Cleanse & Protect at $27; and Moon Babe at $27. Or $97 for all four. One payment each, no subscription.

Where we lose: Insight Timer has audio and video from real teachers and an app with offline downloads. We have text lessons with a pacer and timer in your browser, and that’s it for now. If you meditate best with a voice in your ear, Insight Timer wins.

2. Gaia: video, if you want to watch

Gaia is streaming: 8,000+ series and videos, plus yoga and meditation classes. Its kundalini series for beginners is 6 episodes, about three and a half hours in all. It’s $13.99 a month or $119 a year, with the first 7 days free. Great if you want to follow a teacher on screen, but you’re paying for a whole streaming library.

3. Breathwrk: if it’s mostly breathing you’re after

Breathwrk is breathwork only: 50+ exercises by mood, and guided classes on Pro. Pro is listed at $4.08 to $5.75 a month on its annual plan, depending on which of its pages you read, or $9.00 to $12.00 monthly. Free for some Peloton members.

Who should stick with Insight Timer

  • Anyone who wants free, and lots of it.
  • People who like trying different teachers and voices until one clicks.
  • Anyone who needs offline audio for flights or bedtime (that’s MemberPlus).
